I normally would devour a book with all the elements contained in The Light Bearer but I found it long winded at 800 pages despite the description above. The characters were cardboard cut outs. It became ponderous and boring. I put it aside and held onto to it for years but was never tempted pick it up again. I know it's a popular book and I'm in the minority in canning it but I like depth of character and this book just doesn't have it for me.
