I found the story to be very two dimensional. I felt that it lacked detail and conflict.
No sex scenes, though. That is worth mentioning.
The writer certainly had a clear understanding of England at the time and her references and vocabulary attest to that.

Not bad for a weekend read, but don't expect the steamy love scenes prevalent in many contemporary vampire love stories. I think the only place this book could've used some work is in the explanation of "the veil". But seeing as this is only the first of a trilogy, I'm hoping more details are revealed about this mysterious secret underworld where most of the world's vampires reside.
Gideon and Simone's story is a love story, but it's the love story of a sweet, Victorian-age virgin and the vampire who loves her enough to destroy the evil vampire out to do her harm...oh, and to wait for their wedding night. ;-)

For almost two hundred years, most vampires have forsaken the mortal world, to live in peace and serenity behind the Veil. The greatest of all vampires, Nefri, had used a powerful Medallion to create the Veil. But when Nefri had sensed some impending threat, she took the Medallion, divided it into three, and gave it to three maidens to keep and protect. Now three vampires hungry for power have slipped through the Veil and have ventured into the human world in order to find these three Medallions.
