Lost Dogs tells the stories of the dogs seized from Michael Vick's kennels. Through interviews with law enforcement agents, animal rescue organizations, and adopters, Jim Gorant takes the reader through the painstakingly slow process of rehabilitating these previously damaged and neglected dogs. Although the dogs and their rescuers are the focus of the book, Gorant does not hesitate to tell truths about Michael Vick that were largely burried by the mainstream media: that he personally participated in the murders of dogs that were not successful fighters, and that a polygraph shows he lied about the extent of his involvement. Vick may have served his time in prison, but this book shows that the time he served is miniscule compared to the thousands of hours many dedicated individuals had to serve to help his victims. This book is a must-read for animal lovers, and I challenge anyone who roots for the Eagles to read this and still be able to cheer on Michael Vick.

Everyone should read this book and learn the real truth about this "celebrity" who is again making millions and being fawned over.

A must read for dog lovers everywhere and anyone who has misconceptions about pit-bulls. Pit-bulls are the most loving breed. It's not bad dogs, it's bad owners. These dogs don't want to fight, they are forced to fight. It's a sad story but also a triumph one for most of the dogs seized from Vick. I don't know how anyone could do such awful things to animals and still be able to sleep at night.

In between the legal issues they faced, there are stories about these amazing dogs that made me laugh, cry and punch the air. Not surprisingly this book touched me and made my heart ache over and over and over.

I take pity Michael Vick and those like him that will never appreciate the love of a dog.

I strongly suggest a full box of tissues.

Reading this book has truly made an impact on my life. I'm a HUGE animal lover but I have always shied away from Pit Bulls. I have always believed all the negativity the media has put out about this breed of dog but after reading this book I have come to realize that it's not all true for all the breed. I am old enough...at the age of 62 to finally admit that the Pit Bull is not the only dog that has been given this distinction in history. I can remember German Shepards, Dobermain Pinchers, Rotweillers all having the same negativity spoken in public about them even though I have personal experience about those breeds to know that it's not true. We CANNOT lump all these breeds of dogs togther to say that and this book proves it. Just read it and I think you will agree. Heartbreaking. Real. True.

This book will make you cry because of the dogs and how they overcame what happened to them. It doesn't dwell on the dogfighting part of their lives. It talks about the few dogs and how they were rescued. At the end, 42 dogs out of 51 dogs are still alive. The book explains how shelters are not the place for dogs, rescue organizations are the place. THe Lost Dogs of Michael Vick have allowed new ethic for dogs rescued from dog fighting groups.
