An interesting folk tale of spiritual transformation towards illumination. I enjoyed the book, pretty well written. It was originally written in 16th century China. It's also a satire as well. I couldn't stand Monkey, the main character. He was a selfish jerk. But then so was the Jade Emporer. Even when Monkey achieved his spiritual illumination, he was still a bit of a jerk. Anyway, to me, and this is because I have children, It read like a Dragon Ball Z episode. I see where the cartoon got it's influences. I would recommend this to anyone into Taoism, Buddism, Chinese literature. It is a enjoyable story.
