I couldn't seem to connect to this book. It wasn't a bad story, and it didn't have badly drawn characters, but there was nothing there to make me care.

I liked the thought of this book more than the execution. Argonauts and gods and powers, what's not to like, right? Unfortunately I felt this book was a bit more melodramatic than was necessary. It's like it tried to be dark and angsty but still came off as light and frothy. It just didn't mix well for me. I think a big part of this was the fact that I had no emotional investment in the characters. Sometimes I know characters are behaving ridiculously, but because I empathize with them I forgive them for their stupidity. The characters left me cold here so there was no understanding.

I have a question I never felt was resolved. How did Isadora know about Casey? It was a huge secret right? The only one who was supposed to know was the king, so....? It was never answered! The whole story begins with actions that hinge around Isadora finding Casey. It's like once that was out of the way the author felt no need to go back and make it make sense.

Casey seemed like the most accepting character I have ever seen. She easily accepts the existence of the Argonauts and her connection to them. Toward the end she easily accepts that she'll need to make a sacrifice. She also easily forgives Theron for lying to her. It was all just so... pat. I'm really not a fan of martyrs so when Casey just decided to roll over and die she really irritated me. How is some other world that you've just found out about suddenly more important than yourself?

The writing wasn't bad, but the actual story was just too much for me. Like I said before, I think if I had felt connected to the story my mind would have easily brushed aside all the little things that bothered me (or at least made them seem less irritating).

This book was a very pleasant surprise. I picked it up because of the Greek Mythology roots and I had never read anything about the Argonauts before. It was a little confusing at times because I didn't understand the world/back story of the Argonauts, but it all falls into place. Naughton fills you in as the story goes along. And It takes off from the first page and doesn't stop. No slow downs, it just keeps going with action and intensity. I couldn't put it down, I had to know what was going to happen to Casey and Theron. Theron is not your usual warrior, he has lots of emotions, some he's not used to having, and honor that makes his character one of my new favorites. Casey is swept up in a new world she knows nothing about, but much like her life so far, she seems to roll with each new thing with stubbornness and strength. Their love story is amazing, full of trials, danger, emotions, and a passion Naughton pulls off without falling into filling the pages with a lot of sex (not that i mind, but lots of teasing though!) We gets peaks at the other warriors in Theron's group, and I can't wait to see who's up next......

An exciting start that sucked me right into the Argonauts fight with the daemons to protect humans and Argoleans. I soon found that the Argoleans weren't worth protecting but that's a personal opinion not an Argonaut one. It seems that Atalanta was denied the right to be an Argonaut because she's a woman and vowed revenge against all Argoleans. She sold her soul to the devil and made a pact with Hades. Theron, the leader of the Argonauts is supposed to marry the heir to the throne but this is out of duty not love. When Theron follows her to Earth, he falls instantly in love (though he fights it mightily) with half-breed Casey Simopolous. His mission is to return to Argolea with Casey and sacrifice her to save his dying fiance. But as fate would have it, Casey is his soul mate and now he has to decide between duty and love.

The romance between Theron and Casey is intense and passionate. This is the first book I've read by Elizabeth Naughton but it certainly won't be the last. The ongoing problem with Atalanta and the interference of the Greek gods makes for interesting reading.

This is a great start to the series and I simply cannot wait to read Zander's story. Something happened with his soul mate and he has been tormented since.
