While I really like Sherrilyn Kenyon's books, her more recent ones have not been up to par. I liked No Mercy but felt that it could have been better.

Because the DH universe is so massive now, where you get snippets of all the different plots and sub-plots in each episode any attempt to do this is going to be a failure, at least literarily.

The romance between Sam and Dev suffered immensely because of characters coming out the woodwork. Had time been spent on Sam and Dev's back stories and not squandered on the history of the DH universe, I might have felt something more for them at the end.

I like to call this: "How stupid would I have to be?" Yeah, I feel that way every time I close a lackluster DH book to anxiously wait for the next one.

Was this book about Dev & Sam or was it an introduction to almost a dozen new characters, new species, new sub species, a revisit on old characters... and then some.

Too much of everything made the book feel confusing and it didn't flow well. Each chapter made it feel like you were riding along with a different hero of the day, and Dev didn't seem to be the hero at all, very lackluster actually. No body really seemed bad ass in this book, with each only getting a minute to shine it was just one big mess. 2 stars.

Total side note... but I am SO disappointed to read that her next book, #20, is about Of all people... Jesse from Zarek's book????? That is so random, it makes no sense. Who the hell cares about Jesse.

I'd like to see Savitar's story.

I wanted to love this book because of Dev who has been in and out of lots of the books. But the story is convoluted and littered with too many demon species and other dark hunters; or maybe it's been too long between dark hunter books for me. Needless to say, I was confused and kept trying to remember all the previous books. One positive, I am dying to see what is up with Nick!!!

Loved the latest installment in the DH world. It is complicated that's life and in my opinion that's what makes for a good read. Luv SK always keep the stories coming!
