It is post-depression 1931 and Mildred and her husband Bert are about to separate. She threatens to off him with a cleaver. Ah, Heres another murder by mayhem, I surmise, thinking of Double Indemnity and The Postman Always Rings Twice. Not so? Over 100 pages later all that has happened is that Mildred goes on job search, becomes a waitress, makes pies, finally gets a divorce, opens a restaurant, and loses a sick child. In-between she has a couple of affairs sans any details. In short, melodramatic and boring to tears. Wasnt this made into a movie? Why?
