For a long time, Jed Louis has lived under a cloud of suspiscion that he murdered his foster mother. When 19 years have passed, a girl comes along and rents his former foster mother's home, and the mystery starts to unravel. A good quick read.

The local sheriff is determined to prove that Jed Louis, owner of the antebellum plantation house and breeder of Percheron horses, is responsible for the disappearance of Frannie Granger years ago. Gwyn Miller, who leases land from Jed, is equally determined to prove that the millionaire horseman was in no way involved.
