Minding Molly is the third book in the Courtships of Lancaster County series. Each book is based on a different Shakespeare play, and this time it's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Molly needs to control everything around her, and her need for control grows as circumstances in her world become less stable. Molly discovers that stability is different from control. She may be Amish, but she's not so different from many of us who try to control our own little worlds. Molly's need for control appears to be passed down from her mother, who meddles where she shouldn't. A disastrous camping trip had me giggling at some of the antics among the group. It was neat to see more of Cate and Pete from the first book in this story, as well. We learn along with Molly as she tries to trust God more and control less. I wondered all the way to the end of the book how things would turn out for Molly. I'm looking forward to the next book!

Great Amish story with a twist of Shakespeare

Gosh, Minding Molly was almost a little scary. Scary because Molly reminded me much of myself with her desire to control and her frustration with the people that won't listen. OK, so I am not as organized as Molly is, chore charts? Nope, nuh uh.

Until Minding Molly I had only read the Amish stories that Leslie Gould co-wrote. I'm really glad I picked up this book and I think I'm going to try and read the previous books in the series. And also you never know, I just might read a little Shakespeare, part of the inspiration for this book, too.

You know, I was a little surprised by this book. One thing you don't see very often in Amish stories is depression and/or mental health issues. I liked how Leslie Gould handled it with honesty and sensitivity.

This was a great Amish coming of age story. Molly is already a responsible girl but she has a lot of growing up to do and with the help of family, friends, a fella from Montana, and a horse, she does just that.

(I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers through The Book Club Network for my honest review. All opinions are my own.)

Minding Molly (The Courtships of Lancaster County) (Volume 3) by Leslie Gould introduces us to optimistic, orderly Molly Zook. A need to control everything is Molly's strength and weakness. A characteristic that is a strength because it helps to accomplished the proposed goal. A characteristic that is a weakness because it often annoys the people around her. After her father's sudden death, the family discovers their farm is in financial trouble. Molly cracks the whip to everyone to work triple-time to stabilize the farm. Mervin Mosier, childhood friend, neighbor, and hired-hand gladly works hard for Molly. He relishes being in Molly's presence and runs behind her like a love-sick puppy.

Meanwhile, Molly's mother sees a solution to their financial troubles: an arranged marriage between Mervin and Molly. Mervin's neighboring land would enable them to expand and ensure the farm's prosperity. Molly's horrified by her mother's suggestion, but considers it, while in her heart she loves a new-comer to the community--tall, handsome Leon Fisher.

Molly pursues several avenues to make the family farm profitable again and concocts a plan to cause Mervin to fall in love with her best friend, freeing her to pursue a relationship with Leon.

Will Molly and her mother learn to lean on God and let Him take control of all things in their lives?

About this book:

Capable and optimistic Molly Zook has a slight issue with control: She doesn't like giving it up. So she's chafing against her mother's wish that, to save the family farm, she marry Mervin Mosier--especially after she meets Leon Fisher. He's from Montana but is working in Molly's district, training horses at a nearby ranch. He is tall and muscular, with a confident demeanor. Molly has never met anyone like him, and he seems to feel the same about her.
Determined to let nothing get between them, Molly decides the best course of action is to get Mervin to fall back in love with her best friend, Hannah. Molly organizes a weekend camping trip hoping to bring them together, but things quickly go awry and it seems Leon and Hannah might be falling for each other instead. Will Molly keep struggling to control everyone and everything around her? Or will she learn to let God handle the twists and turns of her life?

Molly Zook drives everyoneand eventually herselfcrazy with her being bossy or controlling but she just lost her Daed, her Mamm isnt doing well, and shes being pressured into a married so her family can keep their farm. I totally understand why shes bossy as her younger sister puts it! Molly learned in this book about people and so did I. I cant wait to read book one and two in this series.
