A most enjoyable read. When Miss Emily Trefusius finds her fiance arrested for the murder of his uncle, Captain Trevelyan, a very rich man, she decides to investigate herself. Joining forces with Inspector Narracott and a determined journalist named Charles the group follows the clues to uncover the murderer. Did James Pearson, her fiance, really commit the murder or was it another member of the family - his brother, Brian, his sister, or an aunt? As the trail leads from one to another person, the last clue finally falls into place and the murderer becomes obvious to Emily who shares her findings with Inspector and, of course, Charles gets the scoop for his newspaper. It's exciting and quite enjoyable read!

A good classic Christie. There are some easy clues to pick up on and then some harder clues. A definite re-read.

It was only a parlor game to while away a bitter winter evening. When the spirits rapped out the message that Captain Trevelyan was dead, it struck everyone as a bad joke. But when Major Burnaby found Trevelyan very dead on his study floor, it was s decidedly eerie coincidence...a coincidence that raised startling questions. Inspector Narracott wanted no help from the spirit world. he wanted answers...amsweres that would explode in scandal; and point the finger tat the man -or woman- who had committed a macabre murder.
