Things to know about this book:
1. The writing style is extremely poor, which I found hugely distracting. Trudeau is not a writer, and it shows.
2. Trudeau suggests Scientology/Dianetics is the best thing to follow. While I don't know if he is a Scientologist, this is an instant deal breaker for me.
3. The book has some common sense (fast food is filled with toxins and if you eat it all the time, you're going to get sick) and there are some interesting ideas, but over all it reads like a paranoid rant where Trudeau wants you to know that he's going to be taken down at any time.
4. This book sets up a complete lifestyle change. Trudeau himself says that it's not realistic to try to do everything at once, but to follow his advice and never be sick again, you have to change everything you are doing right now. Things like getting a special filter installed in your shower, removing all metal dental work, getting 15 colonic in 30 days, not eating pork, no longer taking any prescription or over the counter medication, not eating anything made by man, and more.
5. Trudeau states over and over that the FTC will not let him list specific brands so he continually referrs the reader to his website where he urges you to become a member. Bascially the book is an ad for his site. To join (as of 6/1/06) it's $9.95 a month or $999 for a lifetime membership. In the book he claims he makes no money off of these fees but uses every cent to continue his research.

If you follow his advice you may very well never get sick again and cure anything you already have, but be prepared to change every single aspect of how you live.

In the interest of consumer safety, I feel compelled to point out that Kevin Trudeau's book does not list any specific brands because the FDA has forbidden him from doing so, due to his multiple occurrences of misrepresentation, false advertising and other misdeeds. Let's not forget that the author has absolutely no medical training, formal, informal, Eastern, Western or otherwise. He is listed at Quackwatch as a "Promoter of Questionable Methods". Caveat emptor.

translation...Very poor writing about people who are trying to assasinate me; more blah blah blah that you can read hundreds of places with true detail but if you want detail from me, go to my website and sign up for my newsletter for $$$$...
I read book a library copy of this book, then someone gave me new copies of book one and two. I wouldn't recommend buying either book for real money. A credit maybe, that you could get back after you slam the books shut in disgust and repost...

I've only browsed the book and doubt I'll read it cover to cover. I tend to be suspicious of people like Trudeau who are on board with every new age fad that comes along from eating naturally (which I agree with but he goes so far overboard--easy for him; he has a staff to make sure his food is 100% natural) to magnet therapy to Scientology. Most repulsive is the way he reviles everyone from the pharmacy industry to the grocer because "they" only want in your pocket, yet every other section, he's referring you to his web site to buy his products. And I should believe him because.....?

This book contains a quick hit list of 'how to be healthy' along with a lot of information on why the author believes our society is set up to be intentionally unhealthy. Many Many Many references to 'go to my website and become a member and then email me for specifics'. Membership at his site is $10/month, or $1000 lifetime! No thanks.

This book has some aspects that can be helpful to your health, but overall, it is like some kind of conspiracy theory. I pictured Kevin Trudeau in a locked closet with a flashlight pointed at his face, whispering his last words to make you healthier. He just kept going on and on about how "they" are out to get him, if "they" knew he was telling these secrets "they" would stop him. Also, a lot of his secrets are really just common sense things that most people already know, for example, don't eat a lot of fat. Then again, some things are so off the wall that most people wont even consider it, such as removing all the dental work from your teeth.
I think there are much better "living healthy" books out there than this one.

This book was hard to read in that Mr. Trudeau thinks that by yelling at his readers he will get his point across much better. I have no doubt that a lot of the stuff he says in the book is true and accurate I think that it could have been presented in much better way. When he is not yelling at you and repeating himself (which he does constantly) I found the information informative and have even implemented some of his suggestions. I think that his editors could have done a better job of editing the book and toned down the writing so that it Mr. Trudeau would not have his audience tuning out. I also thought that there should have been some footnotes and a better list of resources to back up what he says. It was like he added the resources chapter as an afterthought. This was poor editing. If you can get past "the in your face yelling" style, it is an informative book.

I wouldn't recommended this book. This book is not well written and doesn't give you any specific information; for that you have to sign up for this web site. This really is false advertising. Also, the information he does present in the book is easily available online or in other more comprehensive books. Try "Healing Without Medication" by Robert Rister for a good reference book.

My poor grandma wanted this book SO bad a few years ago when she heard the info mercial. I ordered it online for her and it was SUCH a dissapointment! He gives you ZERO information. Everytime you think your going to learn something, the book dirests you to this website that you have to pay money to join!! What a rip off! I feel so sorry for everyone that had to pay for this book.

I bought this book hoping it would be helpful in anyway. It was not. He states common sense things like avoid fast food. Duh, you can get that valuable information for free. As others have stated, it's an ad for his website which wants you to spend a lot of money for nothing. I went there, and there's nothing on his website either. I finally managed to contact his customer service, who told me that if I stayed on the website, it would "eventually" have cures up. They even offered me a 1 year "free" membership. I declined and got my money back (eventually). I wish I hadn't spent the money on the book, though, and it angers me every time I see this criminal on TV hawking his bait & switch scam. Acting like he really "cares" about the people he's trying to rip off, uh, I mean "help". The book went in the garbage since that's what it is.

Beware!

From the commercials, I thought this book would be interesting. I was dead wrong! There is a never-ending story about bread that the FDA would not approve for marketing. There are weight loss tips such as 'eat fewer calories' and 'exercise more'. (Geez, why didn't I think of that!!!) The majority of the book is Kevin Trudeau repeating that the government keeps you ill because it profits from your illness, and that the pharmaceutical companies keep you ill because they profit from your illness, and that the FDA keeps you in the dark because it profits from your illness. At the same time, he repeatedly refers to his website where everything you need to feel better is for sale. Uh, who exactly is trying to profit here Mr. Trudeau? I would not recommend this book to anyone at all.

Paranoia or reality? The state of the food industry is scrutinized. I found the pat answer of eat "organic" hard to swallow. (LOL) He makes some good arguements though and gives you pause to think before you get your next McDonald's fix.

Trudeau is looney-tunes, which is too bad because because some of the nutritional information is actually helpful, if simplistic (eat organic, whole foods). He brags that he has had no "higher education" but it is not a positive attribute for him--a little bit of physics or organic chemistry might have gone a long way toward toning down his over-the-top ideas (like, you need an "electromagnetic chaos eliminator" hanging around your neck). This guys is one small step away from tin-foil hat territory.

That being said, at least three-quarters of this book is a paranoid rant against the FDA and FTC. We all know there is corruption in these agencies; we don't need 300+ pages of repetitious ranting. The rest of the book is an ad for his (fee-based) website, which he says he must resort to in order to give specific information about "cures" so that the FTC won't prosecute him. The whole book reads like a late-night infomercial.

Don't bother with this one. If you do bother, start with Chapter 6, which is the only chapter in the whole book with specific health recommendations.

I didn't read the whole book, and in fact was very quickly reduced to skimming, but what I did see of it struck me as paranoid, unrealistic, and very unhelpful. Now I read more about the author, I know he's a known criminal who has been in legal trouble numerous times for various things, including making false claims. So, even if anything in the book did strike me as helpful, how could I really trust it?

This is a good concept for a book, but I know there are far better, much more trustworthy ones out there, written by authors who really want to help people, not just make money off of them. After all, the bulk of the 'cures' you want to know about (or else how to do them) are really on the author's website, not in this book, and access to them is far from free. I can't help but raise an eyebrow at anyone that writes an entire book for the purpose of steering people to his site, where he proceeds to milk them for subscription fees, all for access to information that was claimed to be in the book in the first place.

This book was really hard to read. His tone and manner of writing are abrasive, rough, and not well thought out. He repeats himself A LOT.

Some of the information he has is good, a lot of it in a DUH kind of way. Everyone knows you shouldn't eat it if you can't pronounce it. Some of it is interesting, like the bit on magnets and shower filters. Colonics are not such a great idea, especially not in the frequency he recommends. If you want to kill all the colonizing good bacteria in there that digest your food for you, follow his instructions.

It reads like a bad conspiracy theory. I normally LOVE conspiracy theories, either they crack me up or they make me think. This didn't do either. At first it made me bored, then it made me mad that I actually paid for this piece of garbage. He is selling his website, and trying to convince you that the FDA has some secret plot to ruin his life and make you ill. I'm not a big fan of prescription medication, but I certainly won't advise someone with a serious condition to go off it. I'm no doctor and neither is he.

Trudeau, the author, is a convicted felon (fraud, larceny), huckster, and conspiracy theorist.

Much of the information in this book is not only merely incorrect, but actively harmful. Some of the claims, such as would make a 19th century snake-oil salesman blush. "If your body is alkaline, you cannot get cancer ... and if you have cancer, it goes away." One of the "cures" contained in the book is a recommendation of Dianetics, Scientology pseudoscience.

Here's my secret "he" doesn't want you to know about: Pharmaceuticals don't give you AIDS or lupus, despite what Trudeau says.

For your own sake, *please* seek the advice of someone who knows something about medicine. Or at least someone who isn't trying to defraud those of us who don't.

This is probably one of the only books I was unable to glean even one coherent idea from. Big, big, mucho grande ripoff. The only advice given is to go to his website where (for $$$) you might, MIGHT!, be able to get the answer to a natural cure. I did not, so I cannot say what happens when you get there, but I bet additional monies are needed.

Big disappointment. I want the name of his PR guy. He deserves an award!!

I read this book prior to not knowing anything about Kevin Trudeau's history, so this review is based on my observations within the book. I obtained the book from another paperback swap member, so I am not "out" any money. I do not watch TV, so I am not familiar with his infomercials. It is only after reading the book that I became aware of his current legal issues.

PRO -

The book does have some lengthy lists of things to consider if you are trying to improve your health. For those who are new to the idea of improving one's health, this book may have merit as an overview for ideas. It also has some good reminders - walk every day, drink plenty of water, be aware of the chemicals in processed foods, etc.

Chapter 2 "Why We Are Sick" has merit. The advice and information provided is not new nor false. It does a good job in summarizing the current food production and distribution situation in the U.S.

In the food labels section (CH 9), he provides a lengthy comparison between the "normally" processed foods and those found in a health food store.

CONS -

There is a substantial amount of repetition. There is probably 10-20 pages worth of repeated information in the book that could be trimmed out.

In the lists of recommendations of Chapter 6, 23 of 111 encourage you to go to the website. The only problem with the website is that you have to sign up for it if you wish to access the information.

NEUTRAL -

The author does not hold back on attacking the FDA and FTC. He starts the book in this manner and ends the book with a whole chapter on alleged abuses by the government, medical profession, and the food industry. To his credit, he provides a whole list of books, not as specific footnotes and page references, but lists based on topics that he is addressing. Though there may be merit to these claims, he lays it on heavy.

However, there is no doubt that the author's reputation and legal troubles calls into question the integrity of his allegations.

I got this book simply out of curiosity- but could not get myself to read it all-

The tone of the book is sort of paranoid ("the FDA is after me") and the writing style is lacking.

Trudeau himself is not a doctor, and I did not see any information about technical-medical editing/advising.

All in all, huge disappointment and a waste of time, money and swap points. A better use for this book is as a stepping stool or kindling for fire. :)

This book has a lot of excellent information about the food industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and how they have conspired to make money at the consumer's expense. It truly opened my eyes up to the politics of health, and how those we thought were invested in keeping us healthy have more selfish, economic reasons for the policies that are kept.

That being said (and take it with a grain of natural Celtic sea salt), if you can look past Trudeau's "whistleblower" agenda and militaristic stance, there is a ton of information and recommendations that will keep you healthy naturally. He gives 100 recommendations on "How never to get sick again." He supports his statements by citing research and organizations that support his statements. (I found a hideous number of spelling and typographical errors, so I am leery of his accuracy on many counts.)

A major drawback of the book is the promise of more information if you go to Trudeau's website for more information. . .by subscribing to his newsletter (for a fee). Don't do it, on general principle. So, a mixed review, but definitely worth a read.

What Kevin Trudeau doesn't want you to know
The author of the bestselling "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About" claims to be a consumer advocate in the Ralph Nader mold. But the infomercial king just wants your cash.

By Christopher Dreher

Jul 29, 2005 | Many a late-night channel surfer has been numbed to sleep by endless infomercials hawking ab machines, penis enlargers, psychic readings and baldness cures. But how about a 30-minute faux talk show featuring a slick "expert author" who promises natural cures for cancer, diabetes and chronic fatigue syndrome and who claims that the FDA, drug companies and food industry have withheld such cures from the public in order to keep making bigger and bigger profits?

Step right up folks, and tune in to the paranoid world of master huckster Kevin Trudeau, whose book "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About" climbed to the top spot on the New York Times bestseller list for advice titles last weekend. The Federal Trade Commission virtually banned Trudeau from the airwaves last year in an attempt to "shut down an infomercial empire that has misled American consumers for years." But by shifting his business model from selling supposed cure-all products to peddling books, which are protected by the First Amendment, Trudeau has been able to slip past federal regulators and continue to sell snake oil to the masses -- first through his infomercial and now via mainstream book retailers like Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.

Reno R. Rollé, an executive consultant who handles U.S. retail and international distribution for "Natural Cures," says the book has sold nearly 3 million copies since the infomercial debuted in September 2004, and he sees no end in sight to its success. "No one knows where this thing is going to max out. We're just printing as many books as we can," Rollé says. "We're poised to make history here. What we're doing could revolutionize the book publishing industry."

Even before hitting the bestseller list, Trudeau, who is in his early 40s, had built a billion-dollar empire as a prolific infomercialteer, selling various health and self-improvement products under the cover of night. This despite a two-year stint in federal prison in the early '90s after pleading guilty to credit card fraud, and a 1996 tangle with the Illinois attorney general, who accused him of running a pyramid scheme while working for a health-products company called Nutrition for Life. Trudeau and a co-defendant settled that case, paying $185,000 to Illinois and seven other states; during that time, the U.S. Postal Service and Securities and Exchange Commission also investigated his business dealings.

He is a bit of a "know it all" but some of his points are good...e.g. don't treat the symptoms, treat the problem - why do you have a headache, etc. It remains to be seen whether his advice of "never taking any medications because they are poison" (OTC or RX) is true. He bascially says everything is poison (processed food, fruits/veggies/meat) - I'd love to know what he eats besides home juiced carrot juice!

Interesting book with a lot of neat information. Not exactly what I expected as it doesn't really come right out and tell you how to cure things. This book is EXCELLENT!! I don't understand why it's being bashed, and why people are so afraid to step outside the box. Well, yes I do...We've been conditioned to doubt anything that hasn't been "FDA approved" or doesn't have the approval of a "medical professional." We're our best doctors. We know more about our bodies than ANYone. Ever consider why Trudeau doesn't get too specific with cures? Because the FDA won't allow it, because if we knew there were simple inexpensive cures for some of the illnesses plaguing us today...they wouldn't profit. Don't be fooled for a minute into thinking the FDA actually cares about your well-being. Just read some of food labels in the grocery stores...they were "FDA approved." And so what if Trudeau is or was or will be a criminal?! Many people leading our country are too!! I highly recommend this book for those not afraid to step out the box and learn some very valuable information.

OK Trudeau wants to sell books and in his books, he wants to sell you a membership to his web site. OK, we get it, he wants to CONTINUE to BE a millionaire from his books. Yes yes we know.

That being said, he has some VERY 100% truths in this book. Eat organic. That should be required by law, but alas, too expensive, especially for a family now a days.

Most of the things he said are common sense tactics to help you and your body become healthier, but sometimes you need someone else to TELL YOU what to do to achieve your goals.

He tells a lot about the pharmaceutical companies and government not giving a crap about the people. Hello, people, we've all known that already, haven't we? Seriously, why else would our politicians keep lying to us for years and years? Why else would the drug companies tell you that they can cure you from something with their pill, but then rattle off a fast disclaimer saying it could basically kill you if you take it.

Kev has good points, you'd be an idiot not to read it and get a different perspective and maybe get something from this book that can help you. You never know until you TRY.

The people to read this book, OPEN MINDED PEOPLE ONLY!

Kevin Trudeau blows the lid off a nest of deception and double standards concerning general and individual health in this new book, "Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You To Know About." Kevin has risked government prosecution to bring you the full story of an intricate conspiracy.
From the retail supermarket outlets of huge, publicly traded corporations comes processed, manipulated, engineered "food products" produced by other wings of the same corporation. These artificial, toxic treats are then sold with the blessings of the Federal Trade Commission and Food and Drug Administration government organizations charged with safeguarding the public good laying the foundations for future disease and chronic ill-health for the consumer, and a guaranteed source of revenue for the medical and pharmaceutical sectors.

Kevin reveals the shocking truth of how drugs which are being advertised directly to the consumer, pushing their use to an all-time high are actually the cause of illness and disease climbing to near epidemic levels.

And, though it sounds dire, Kevin offers a light in the darkness and directs the reader to scores and scores of alternative therapies, medical practices, philosophies and most importantly potential cures that help your body regain its natural state of health and vibrancy.

So follow Kevin on an amazing journey through the behind-the-scenes world of corporate sponsored "nutrition" and "health," and learn about "Natural Cures 'THEY' Don't Want You To Know About."
