Nobody Home Author:Jennifer Lloyd Paul Judith Stoner is a woman who has lost faith in herself after years of being haunted by her husband's continuing unfaithfulness. When she voluntarily enters a private psychiatric hospital she is unable to talk or to make decisions. A doctor asks her to describe herself and she writes: "Efficient. Very efficient." — This is not the gr... more »im hospital setting of Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, but rather a sort of dorm with friendly nurses who act like house-mothers. And Judith, although deeply depressed at first, is not a person without resources.
There is a profound sense of community among the patients, who are sometimes bizarre in their behavior, but consistently loving, supportive, and delightfully humorous in spite of their own overwhelming problems. In this environment Judith is led to risk herself, to cultivate her own latent creative abilities, to paint, and to write.
She and another patient fall in love and have a very sensual and touching love affair. When they first meet he tells her, "Treasure your mistakes, dear. Anybody can be perfect."
This is Judith's diary, that rare account told from the inside; a journal of growth and recovery.« less
