The 2nd book in the pet-sitter mysteries, and it's even better than the 1st.

Former high-powered litigator Kendra Ballantyne lost her license over a murder charge and now makes a living as a pet sitter. She lives in a small portion of her mansion while renting out the main house, and when her tenants and their illegal pet ferrets get accused of murder, she reluctantly agrees to help because she believes them innocent. This mystery really dragged for me, and while there was nothing I hated about it, there was nothing I really liked about it either. The attempts at humor fell flat, and the revelation at the ending was very contrived and to me a little cheesy. Not my thing at all.

This book made me uncomfortable on several levels. It lacks logic (how in the world is a pet-sitter salary paying for that mini-mansion, even temporarily?) and it lacks depth. It's a little weak on ferret facts, too. Ferrets are tricky to keep correctly and her descriptions amount to ferret abuse. The character is shallow and the author makes her judgemental, especially towards anyone who is not skinny. "hefty Tilda...who apparently had added an extra pound for every year of her life" and "her plump face shone with perspiration" and and Lyle "bulging belly beneath his snug shorts." All that just in the first chapter. It doesn't get better.

Fun story, several twists, hard to figure out the culprit. Good characters, love all the animals she pet-sits.
