This series improves with each new book. The characters are familiar now, so there seems to be more interaction, instead of explanation.
In this installment, we get to meet The Swine (Alison's ex-husband), and we learn more about Maxie the ghost. There are two investigations going on -- one involving someone from Maxie's past, and one involving someone from Paul's past.
I picked out the villain fairly early, but there were still some interesting twists up until the end. Alison's snarky comments are, as always, amusing.
Overall, a fun read with characters that get better with each new book in the series.

The ghosts haunting Alison Kerby's Jersey Shore guesthouse are sad. Maxie wants to know who murdered her ex-husband, and Paul pines for his still-living almost-fiancee. The only one who isn't missing her ex is Alison -- because The Swine just arrived on her doorstep...
As this series goes on I find I'm enjoying each one more and more. I love the characters, I love the Jersey shore and I love Copperman's sense of humor.

"Old Haunts" is the third installment in the Haunted Guesthouse series. As a previous member wrote the series becomes more fun and enjoyable with each new book.
I recommend reading the series in chronological order to get a full understanding of the characters and their backgrounds. Otherwise, you may be a little confused as to why Maxie and Paul (the ghosts) are "hanging" around the house.
The mysteries in this one focus on a person from Maxie's past and a missing person from Paul's past. Alison and her daughter Melissa quickly become caught up in helping their resident ghosts. We are introduced to Alison's ex (The Swine) and are reacquainted with both Alison and Maxie's Moms.
The snarky comments by Alison often induce laugh out loud moments. If I was going to live in a house with ghosts I'd want them to be just like Paul and Maxie.
Keep the series coming - they are great!!

Loved the book. I have read both the previous Haunted Guesthouse stories and loved them both. Can't wait for Bk 4. The story was entertaining and kept me guessing right up until the end. E. J Cooperman can really spin a good story!

Paul reveals that he was planning to ask his girlfriend to marry him and needs Alison to track her down to see how she is doing. Oh, and Alison's ex-husband shows up.
Alison has developed a program for residents to "see" the ghosts and has tours that revolve around Maxie and Paul. She and Melissa try to keep this away from The Swine (the ex). A biker hires Alison to investigate the death of Maxie's ex, Big Bob. A little romance ensues. Paul's former girlfriend is more elusive and takes a bit to track down.
This is such an enjoyable series. It grows with each installment. I like the interaction between Alison, Lissa and the ghosts. Lissa is particularly sweet with them. The mystery was good and kept you guessing. A particular twist was not what I had hoped for Alison.
I look forward to the next book.

Once again, E.J. Copperman (AKA Jeffrey Cohen) has crafted a light, fun mystery that's the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Alison is just the type of stressed, smart alecky character that I love. The fact that her guesthouse has a deal with Senior Plus Tours to provide accommodations for senior citizens wanting "special experiences" has all sorts of wackos walking in and out of the premises, and you have to know that the author knows how to play this for all it's worth. However, it's the relationship between Alison, her daughter and her mother that mean the most to me. The love, thoughtfulness, snarkiness, and exasperation make readers feel as though they've walked right into the middle of a real family.
Alison is helped in her attempts to be a private investigator by Paul, who was one before he was murdered in her house. Alison is a pretty smart cookie, and Paul must be a decent teacher because his pupil seems to be picking up a thing or two-- which is good because she has a lot on her plate. By the time everything's done and dusted, everyone's pitched in to find answers to all the questions, and isn't that the way it should be? In Alison Kerby's haunted guesthouse on the Jersey Shore, no man (woman, or ghost) is an island. They're all in it together.
If you enjoy light-hearted books with good mysteries, good humor, and characters that feel as real to you as family, I think you'll like reading E.J. Copperman's Haunted Guesthouse series.
