For those who like their historicals hot and dark...check out this book. Character interaction is snappy while being true to the period; hero's journey to happiness is a dark one-as is the heroine's but Nick's is more vivid. And it's a fun to catch up with characters introduced in a previous book-but their involvement in no way hampers the enjoyment for those who haven't read their story.

Viscount Lancaster needs to marry for money to save his family from financial ruin. Cyntha Merrithorpe fakes her death to escape the clutches of a perverted old man she is ordered to marry. Childhood friends of different stations in life reunited both running from a future neither wants.

When Viscount Lancaster discovers that Cyntha is running from a betrothal to his past tormenter, he does everything in his power to save her from her fate. He also discovers there may be other means to save his family from financial ruin.

This book is unusual in that it has a hero who is a victim of sexual abuse. It is interesting to see a man view of this issue.

I have to say I loved this book. Another fabulous book by a great author who can write in both genres, Contemporary and Historical. This book has a visit to the Duke of Somerheart and Emma, from the book A Rakes Guide to Pleasure. It was fabulous to catch up w/ them. This book was just great. If you haven't checked out a Victoria Dahl book you are in for a treat.

I could have sworn I read this book before... Although it was copyrighted Aug 2009. It had a storyline that seemed "old hat" to me. That said, it is a good story. It has unexpected twists and turns and a happy ending.
