This is a three-in-one book containing three very different stories, each a part of Anna's life (actually the author's life, fictionalized) as her family flees Germany before WWII and tries to set up life elsewhere. There are no gruesome details in any of the books, unlike most WWII narratives.
When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit is suitable for children, but interesting for adults. Anna is seven when her family is forced to move first to Switzerland, then France, and finally England, to escape Hitler. A good book to start children on the history of WWII without traumatizing them.
Bombs on Aunt Dainty jumps forward to when Anna is fifteen and living in London. This and the next book are not children's stories. One of the big themes is Anna's first love, a much older married man. It's a good story of refugees in London, and being the 'English' child of foreign refugees.
A Small Person Far Away jumps forward eleven years after the end of the war, and is the only depressing book in the trilogy. Anna's mother in Berlin attemps suicide and ends up in a coma, and Anna flies from London to be with her. Although it covers a little of the times - the Russian invasion of Hungary, what it was like for people in Berlin after the war - the main bulk of the story is Anna dealing with how she feels about her mother, and her's mother's right to die if she wants to. If you buy the book and end up not reading the third story, don't feel that you're missing anything.
