Gene Hackman (the actor) is a much better writer than one might think. This is the second novel I've read and enjoyed by him. His characters are well-developed and his prose is vivid, but not livid. This is a fairly typical Western revenge story, but with enough off-beat characters and plot developments to make it well worthwhile.A good read.

Story line is similar to other westerns, ending is OK but a few plot lines seem to not make sense.
