Pink Lemonade Cake Murder is the twenty-ninth installment in the A Hannah Swensen Mystery series set in Lake Eden and featuring The Cookie Jar owner Hannah Swensen. I've been saying after reading each of the past several books in this series that I would not continue to torture myself, but here I am and once again kicking myself in the behind for even thinking things this time around might be better.

You can read the book jacket and the reviews prior to mine to get the gist of the mystery. This installment is so farfetched, so wordy and so repetitive. Are you really supposed to believe that Mike is going to just sit back and stay out of town while Hannah and Company solve the murder for which her mother is a suspect? I want to scream every time the person speaking has to say the the name of the person they are speaking to in each and every sentence and sometimes twice in the same sentence. If there's only 2 people in a room, I think we (and they) can figure out the dialogue.

There is a cliffhanger at the end in order to get you to read the next addition - but I'm seriously thinking it's time for Hannah to choose Norman and ride off into the sunset with the cats.

At this point, I am only reading these books for comic relief.

It's evident from the writing style that Joanne Fluke is no longer the true author. There's at least one ghost writer, maybe a team working on these. The prose and dialogue is miles away from the other books in this series. Half of the characters don't even act or talk like themselves. And what is up with the lack of contractions? Is it just to hit the word count faster? It makes the conversations seem so stilted and unnatural, not to mention the CONSTANT repetition of words and phrases.

The set-up for the murder (Delores vs. No-No because of the dunk tank incident) was so heavy-handed it was comedic. There's absolutely no mystery or intrigue in this series, and overall the plot was just bizarre. Most of it revolved around teenage girls riding in a convertible.

Some questions I have after reading this novel:

- Is anyone concerned that Mike is having a mental breakdown/identity crisis? Is Stella a trained psychologist/psychiatrist? Why is she the one handling Mike's problems?
- When did everyone in Lake Eden become a baseball fanatic?
- Is it possible to make cookies WITHOUT Kool Aid packets?
- Was this book sponsored by Campbell's?
- Will we ever find out the reason for No-No's ridiculous nickname?

I could go on, but I seriously doubt anyone is actually reading these books for a good story. Most people are probably like me and just too heavily invested in this series to give up now. The next book HAS to be the last, and Hannah and Norman HAVE to get married...for the sake of my sanity.
