I know this is a classic book, and it certainly has wonderful illustrations; however, if your family doesn't do Santa, be warned that this is not the book for you. I also don't personally care for the "magic of childhood lost in adulthood" theme, maybe because I am lucky enough to be in the midst of a magical adulthood. In any case, as with most of Van Allsburg's work, it's best to preview this one before bringing it into your home.
