This a very different book but I injoyed it, could hardly put it down. It is a story of a lonely man's trip through life and the lives he touched.

The author has a unique and interesting style using many metaphorical expressions and references. The characters are mostly everyday down at the heels hard scrabble ordinary people with problems trying to get through their lives as best they can.

A beautiful, compelling novel. If you liked the film adaptation of her novel, Shipping News, you will really enjoy this novel.
