It's a nice little story about Jilly Coppercorn's struggle with addiction and her growth as a human being, partially set in what is a sort of afterlife but one that Jilly can escape, if she wants to. But what I want in a fantasy novel is to be immersed in another world, with strange beings and fantastical happenings, and that isn't the focus of De Lint's urban fantasies now. It's good writing, Jilly is a fully formed character as are most of the secondary characters...but just not what I want in a fantasy. I'll pass it on.
