I headed over to do some author cleanup because I had a few authors in my wish list that are... strangely alphabetized.

And then I realized I had some questions.  What is the correct format for JK Rowling?  JRR Tolkien?  Obviously the second initial is a middle name, but since we use the initials as the first name, will that create non logicial searches?  Or is there a guideline somewhere that I haven't found?

There is a volunteer team that works on editing PBS data like that; you might want to check out this thread for more information: http://www.paperbackswap.com/forum/topic.php?t=60867

Among other things, it addresses your particular query:

"If an author has initials. There is to be a space between them. "J period space R period space R period space"

  • J. R. R. Tolkien   Not   J.R.R. Tolkien --- T. H. White  NOT  T.H. White"

Cheers,

Catt
