Georgette Heyer is known to millions for her stunning storytelling skill. She was the original Regency romance author, and she is still the best.

Regency Buck was Heyer's first book set in the Regency era, and it's not a favorite of mine. I find the hero an arrogant pain and the heroine pretty much the same, in her own way, and her brother is a twit. Yet this is not a novel of character; it's supposed to be a romantic comedy with a bit of suspense, and we are supposed to be able to like the central figures.

It's also rather an infodump. She stuffed in as much lore as she could. Heyer had fallen in love with the Regency era, and who can blame her, but this is a first attempt and it shows.

That is not to say it isn't worth reading. It is still heads above many of the regency romances published today. Heyer did her research; she knew her era and the class she was writing about, and she already had the humor. It's not a favorite, but I still recommend it.
