Young Echo Sackett has never been out of the hills she was born in until she has to travel to the big city to receive an inheritance from kinfolk she never knew. There she meets some no good city slickers, but also meets a wonderful greenhorn that wants to protect her and ends up being protected by her.

Awesome book! Thoroughly enjoyed the ENTIRE story! Louis L'Amour is amazing in his story telling technique! I have not been let down yet! This would be an excellent story for a teenage girl.
It is about a girl of 16 that travels to a city she is unfamiliar with to retrieve an inheritance of a considerable sum. She encounters several hoodlum types that try to steal the inheritance while she heads back for home. Little do these hoodlums know that she is Echo Sackett; an incredibly intelligent woman, tough as nails, and accurate with a firearm! She gives them a "run for the money", so to speak.
It is an enjoyable read! Too many people are deprived of Louis L'Amour's incredible skill as a writer! I am addicted!
I would also highly recommend "Lonesome Gods" by Louis L'Amour. A definite MUST READ!

I loved this book! I am, admittedly, a Louis L'Amour fan and really like his books. This one was a "Sackett" series book, with a female heroine, filled with action and adventure. Predictable, as all of his books are...but I love them!

No matter that Echo Sackett was young, and a woman, and had never been far away from the valley. She was still a Sackett-sharp and smart and a better hunter than most men she knew.A sure hand w/a horse,a dead shot w/a rifle and fast w/her wits. But can she prove
herself to those who doubt her.
