Although I have no desire to travel to China, Paul Theroux made me feel like I have already been there.

Theroux provides a thorough look at the history of the Chinese as he travels through the continent. He focuses on the cultural revolution and its juxtaposition to capitalism introduced by Deng Xiaoping. Really a wonderful book which shows the reader how diverse and vast the country of China is.
