I really enjoyed this book and read it straight through.
Set in the mid 1700's, the story begins as revenge, which has taken years in planning, is now complete...as
a beautiful young French aristocrat is visited in her French prison cell by a tall dark stranger who becomes her seducer and savior, obsessed to possess her in passion and fury.

Wonderful historical setting that was well researched. Writing style that made me smell the green murkey water of the bayou as the plot quickly moved to the French occupied Louisiana. Strong focus on the relationship between the H/h. Alot of sex, but the book was written in 1993 so although it is descriptive, it isn't written in explicit language as today's writers tend to use.

I don't want to give anything away other than the adventure and intrigues kept me glued to the pages...as Secrets - voodoo - murder - hauntings - Choctaw Indian uprisings on the sparsely populated French plantations - and a passionate love story - kept my complete attention to the last page.
