Back Cover:
Welcome to a 1989 stem to stern revision of Sailing Illustrated in its 33rd year continuously in print.
It was first published in 1956 as a basic sailing pocketbook defined by the first mate watching my endless mistakes with our first sailboat, "Why don't you draw the sailing book you were looking for".
And so it sprouted, growing on its own with each new experience and mistake.
Sailing Illustrated also developed at its own pace with umpteen minor to major revisions as it matured with sailing.
We stick to and try to improve the sailing basics in the flipping index at left for handy reference in each updating.
Sailing is a continuous learning process, especially for this author. We feel our friendly, humorous at times, homespun approach is the method to teach the endless areas and complexities of sailing.
The sport of sailing is what you want to make of it, from dinghies, to small and large cabin sailboats, whether your interest is racing, cruising, and a combination of both...or to enjoy reading sailing classics.
We continue to provide answers to all kinds of sailing. You can soon realize how easy it is to adapt to and enjoy the comradie [sic] of a variety of sailors and sailing craft.
