In 1958 a preacher and his family move to a small Illinois town, right next door to Mrs. Dowdel, the town curmudgeon. The seasons pass and as Christmas nears, Mrs. Dowdel shows her neighbors and the town, gifts can come in the unlikeliest forms.
The story is told by the preachers twelve year old son Bob and is very humorous.
This is a young adult book, but it's an interesting and fun read for adults too, that will take them back to simpler times.
