Kaylee O'Shay is very excited â she has been chosen to dance on a ceili (say âcay-leeâ) at the Midwest Championships of Irish Dance. But maybe she can't go â she has to get a new school dress because she's outgrown her old one. Her family doesn't have the money for a new one and her Grandma Birdsall is too ill to make her another one like she did the first time.
Kaylee gets a job working on a horse farm. At first, working there interfers with her training for dance, but then she comes up with a way to make the job and Irish dance work for her.
And, there's one person on her ceili team that keeps missing practice, but Miss Helen seems to be letting this person slide. This infuriates Kaylee because she feels this is going to have a detrimental effect on the team's performance at the championship.
In her personal life, Brittany Hall is still mean and nasty to her â most of the time. Brittany invites Kaylee to a party at her home. Kaylee attends but learns a hard and expensive lesson. And Kaylee figures out that Brittany has a crush on her little brother, Will, which she finds rather amusing and gross at the same time.
Plus, she's still trying to find out about Lizzie Martin and why she chose soccer over Irish dance.
Another exciting episode in the life of Kaylee O'Shay. I believe the author has a great feel for what it's like to be a teenager who wants to fit in and doesn't always make the best choices.
