Reeman writes very good naval fiction, often with a love story thrown in. The latter isn't complicated, it's often "love at first sight," and doesn't detract from the sea story. I usually don't think his post-World War II stories are his best, but I'll make an exception for this one. In some ways it reminded me of "H.M.S. Uylsses" by MacLean, which is my all-time favorite naval novel.

And, like many authors, Reeman has a formula. This one reminded me of another post-World War II novel dealing with the Red Chinese. Which lead me to identify the wolf-in-sheep's-clothing early on.
