This book seemed only somewhat helpful. If you are curious or starting out at sewing I highly recommend S.E.W. Everything Workshop by Diana Rupp. Diana's explanations are funny AND she is clear in explaining how to get results.
Sewing for Dummies, this version, has out-dated and tacky projects. The version of the "Little Black Dress" that is in this Sewing for Dummies actually looks more like something someone would wear to a funeral rather than a hot date. Some of the projects in here are curtains, cornice, pillows, a pillow made from napkins, a vest made from napkins, napkins, and a table cloth.
I DO like that the author actually lists the different feet, stitch lengths, and widths to use for specific stitches. It was nice having as a reference, but I haven't really used it for anything else. I am only a novice and everything I have wanted/needed to use so far has been either on YouTube or the S.E.W Everything Workshop book by Diana Rupp. Perhaps a more intermediate or advanced sewer might appreciate this book.
