This is a very brief sampling of her stories. There are two samples from her Hospital Sketches based upon her nursing experiences during the Civil War. My Contraband, also a Civil War nursing tale has a bizarre twist on vengence; it almost seems to lay a foundation for some of the Civil War tales of Ambrose Bierce.
