I have noticed at the top of the homepage where it list books in particular categories, the number of mis-categorized books is increasing. I thought it was a simple mistake at first, but they seem to get more blatent. I put in request to have the mistake fixed and the request seem like they are being ignored. I know some of the information on books is taken directly from Amazon but I checked with Amazon and they have the correct category. I have the time to fix this myself but I can't find anything on being a moderator.

i think all you need to do is contact PBS and let them know you would like to volunteer.

When I 'm reading a book I check the book's description, where I often see mistakes and weird characters, like the '?' in the black triangle. So I visit the book's data page and usually end up making corrections in several areas. It only takes a few minutes, less time then I spend on written reviews.

Since I often have five books open at once, and seldom finish a book in one or two days, it may be a week before I return to the page where I made data changes. I've noticed it takes longer for my data page corrections to be approved, so maybe they do have less volunteers doing this.

When you put in the request, did you do a Data Edit, or did you use a contact form? You have to submit a data edit and in my experience, it takes fewer than 3 days to see the change or get a reply on why they were unable to make the change. Sometimes I disagree with the reason, but they always politely explain if they reject an edit. That is the data team, which is different than the team that moderates the forum. Last time I got a message in July, the team member told me they have a lot of edits to get through. So, I would guess that someone going on vacation or just not being able to keep up with their normal level of reviews might cause a longer delay.

I've only done data edits. I assume it would be rejected if I didn't put a reason so I make sure I put a reason but I've never gotten anything saying the correction was approved or rejected and nothing on those books has ever changed.

Go back into Date Edit and see if a message states something to the effect that a "previous edit has not yet been approved." This means an editor has not reviewed it yet. Sometimes it's approved within a week, others I've done have taken a month or more.

As I am adventureous, I've done things the editors let me know were wrong. I always listen to their advice, as they have certain standards even they have to adhere to.

For example, if the book date you edit is a non-ISBN book, only the person who created that page can further edit it. So, if I have such a book on my TBR list and I created the page, I also leave a comment stating I created that specific page. I discoverd this when I would often enter the dimensions, title, author, weight, etc, and then come back later to enter the description. Then an editor would tell me I could only edit the non-ISBN page if I had created that page.

If sometimes the rules seem excessive, then remember every community has to have rules or it's just a mob.

There are no moderators on the site. What you are looking for are Image and Data Editors and Approvers, and yes, there are not a lot of approvers to handle the many submissions of edits.  You can send in Feedback and ask about how to join the Image and Data teams, maybe become an approver to help move edits through the system faster.
