SILENT PREY is the fourth book in the "Lucas Davenport" series, and I thought it was a worthwhile read. This novel is an unofficial sequel to EYES OF PREY, and features the same serial killer villain, who breaks out of prison to terrorize New York. So my first piece of advice is to read EYES OF PREY before reading this novel.

This book is well written, but I thought there was too much plot. Not only is Davenport on the trail of a serial killer, but he's also after a group of police vigilantes known as the "Robin Hoods." The vigilante plot is convoluted and complex, and I had some problems keeping all the names and plotlines straight. The serial killer stuff is essentially a retread of what you read in EYES OF PREY -- the killer pretty much thinks and acts the same way as he did in the prior book. So there's nothing new or original here.

Sandford's a fine writer, but I thought this effort was a relative disappointment compared to some of his other Prey books.

Be aware this is NOT a new novel, it was originally published in 1992 and has apparently been republished.

Great follow-up novel to Eyes of Prey. The series moves from the frigid Twin Cities to the gritty and muggy streets of New York. The marquis storyline is good enough to carry the lackluster subplot.

Book 4 of the Lucas Davenport series and a continuation of the storyline involving Bekker the baddie from Eyes of Prey. This book takes Davenport to NY to assist one of his old flames on the Bekker case in addition to investigating th "Robin Hood" killers. This book was pretty good. The mystery aspect kept me guessing. I enjoy reading about Davenport but his many women conquests drive me nuts.

Wow. Another twisted ending in a book about Davenport chasing Bekker. I kept giong back and forth with who the 'bad/good' guy was. The way Bekker was escaping setection was interseting and suprising.

This is the fourth book in the Prey series. Not one of my favorites. It is the continuation of the previous book. Becker escapes from prison and is on the run wreaking havoc and the bodies pile up. I really didn't care for the ending either. Just an okay read for this book.

John Sanford puts a lot of suspense and detail in each subject. Lucas Davenport is a detective/computer game designer) who is not only good looking, a little macho, but is able to figure out the process of the crime where others find it difficult. Very engaging character...you won't want to put the book down.
