A very nice story about Hungary during WWI. Suitable for children, and the two adult readers of this household enjoyed it. This is something I can see made into a gentle, heartwarming movie.

I did not read the first book, and did not miss having read it; this book stands alone.

Janci realizes changes are coming quickly- perhaps too quickly. He has heard rumors of war. He must grow up all the sooner now that Hungary and Germany have begun battle. Newberry Honor Award.
