This book was an interesting take on the classic horror vampire tale. If you enjoyed Stoker's Dracula this would probably be a book worth picking up. It's set in the 18th century and the author does a good job of giving the writing the feel of that time period, as well as giving the different characters their own voices and personalities.

That said, I couldn't finish this book. I thought it was interesting but the style just didn't capture my imagination. The characters were well written, but didn't appeal to me or make me feel like I was vested in what happened to them. Much of the book (at least the beginning) was written in the letter and journal entry style (much like Dracula) and I didn't find it particularly engaging.

I wish the story had been written in a different way, because I honestly wanted to finish but just couldn't get around the style of the writing.
