This book is funny, cute and alot like Stephanie plum. I enjoyed the whole "vampire" scene and the Damned Dog was hilarious. I enjoyed the fun, wit and the whole outlandousness of it all.
The second one, Dirty laundry is even better.
Good fun chick lit mystery.

I picked this up because it was marketed as similar to the Stephanie Plum series, which I love. It was kind of a ripoff of the Plum series and my Big Fat Greek Wedding, only without the humor. I couldn't get into this at all. I got about 100 pages in before I gave up. The characters were all one dimensional stereotypes. I'd pass on this one...

A cross between My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding and Stephanie Plum. A nice look at the Greek community in Astoria NY.

Why such weak reviews? It was a well done book, and a great way to pass some time drinking tea and escaping. Yes there were some similarities to Janet E.s Stephanie Plum series, but I liked it cause it was less wacky, and had more heart. As for the mystery, I was just a clueless as our main character, as to what was going on, and when it all came together, I was happy with the results.

Tori Carrington is actually the pen name of a Husband and wife team who write many, many romance novels, you know the kind. Different cover, different state, different job, different hair, and eye color but the same old romance story. They have continued to write these romances even after they have written this series. Having said that, I think that they have real talent as writers, because this isnt a romance with a few guns and dead bodies thrown in. This is the beginning of a new relationship with a great group of people of Astoria, NY and their Greek community.

This book can stand on its own, it isnt a rip off of Stephanie Plum. In fact Sophie even likes to read Janet E.s books. She also liked to drink Nescafe Frappes, hence the coffee cup on the front cover. There is a recipe for the Frappe at the back of the book, and two other recipes.

If you enjoy Janet Evanovich's books, then consider Sofie to be the Greek Stephanie Plum.

In this first book of the series, we meet Sofie, her family, and her madcap neighbors, and follow her through various foibles as she tries to reinvent herself as a private detective. She's fun and she's tough, and she takes no guff from anyone (especially her "almost" husband, whom she caught "boinking" the maid of honor in the church on her wedding day)!

I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series ... I have a feeling Sofie is going to be a "keeper".

I really tried hard to like the heroine. I kept hoping that she would end up being fun and interesting. Instead, she was just sad and depressing.

Book had an interesting premise and I liked the greek family dynamics. As the first book in the series, it did not pull me in as much as I would have thought. I would read book 2, but am not rushing to order the rest of the books until I see if book 2 is better.
