Winter is coming. To HBO that is.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117957532.html?categoryid=14&cs=1 I'm very exicted about this. I just recently got turned on to the series so I can't really discuss the books at length without spoiling myself on future books but I must say that I look forward to seeing how they'll handle the characters.

I wish I had HBO, too.  I haven't started the series yet, but have it on my wish list.  Looks good!

I was at a literay convention a couple months ago where George RR Martin was one of the guest speakers.  There was a little bit of discussion about this.  Basically if I'm remembering the discussion correctly the rights have been bought but production hasn't started and there's a lot of ground work to still be done.  I'd really like to  see a series made but I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.  I  got the impression from him that it's going to be a long time before we actually see this unfortunately.  Not to mention there are at least 3 more books in the series still to be published and he doesn't exactly churn them out all that quickly.

This will surely be a welcomed series.  Supposedly 12 episodes per book.  Given that Martin wont likely finish until 2011 the last book, plan to see this series over the next 5-6 years :)

Yeah there's a lot of potential for it to be a really awesome hbo mini series.  Plus Martin has experience with screenwriting, he wrote some of the episodes for Beauty and Beast back in the 80s.  So hopefully he'd be really involved in the conversion tv.  5-6 years out sounds like a good prediction to me :)

This is a series (A song of ice and fire) that i saw recommended over & over again on Amazon & other places with lists of favorite books; I got from library reluctantly cuz I do not normally read sci/fi/fantasy and have never like reading books re courts (thrones etc); I read the 1st chapter of the 1st book & then put down thinking I really don't like books re thrones & governments etc; However, I thought: this man writes superbly so I picked it up again thinking I would read just a little more; I was hooked! Bait line & sinker! Superb series! STill checking his websight to find out when Dancing with the Dragons will be out!

Just finished A GAME OF THRONES today.  Quite a read at 807 pages.  Since it is the people who did ROME, I expect it will be done well.

Martin's writing is enjoyable, I kept reading even though action unfolds at an incredibly slow pace.  I admit I started quick reading Daenerys; Sansa or Bran chapters couldn't be short enough.  Eddard started out my favorite but he felt so unassertive, almost passive, for a great Lord and hero type that his fate became obvious and welcome.  Had reverse reaction with Catelyn; I like her more as story develops.  Enjoyed Jon, Arya, and Tyrion throughout; would be curious how the direwolves are represented.

I think that Bran may eventually grow on you.  I find myself wanting to skip the Daenerys chapters.
