After reading TG's first four, this book is kind of a let down... It's still really good, it's just there are several chapters that go on about the elaborate banquets the Anders hold. I had to have a sandwich while reading and re-reading this one. I like the hidden philosophy in every book in this series and especially this one. Very interesting...
I was addicted by the first sentence of Wizard's First Rule. This story is pretty action packed if not a little bit odd at times. But don't take my word for it...

this one kind of drags on a bit mostly because the characters we have been following don't really make an appearance until half way through the book.

This book was a gift, but I just heard that he loved it, and wants the next in the series.

The book like the series is a wonderful read. Since starting this series, I can't put it down. I anxiously await the next in the series and read it with wonder what will happen to Richard the Seeker, Kahlan the Confessor, and Cara the Mord-Sith in the next book. The TV series was good, but the books take you to new heights.

This book was great! The chimes are loose and Richard has to figure out how to stop them before magic completely fails and all hope is lost. Goodkind introduces new characters in a town called Anderith which is captivating in itself. For a few chapters I kind of forgot what book I was reading since it was hard trying to connect the two together, but it unravels and all of it makes sense. If you liked the other books then you should enjoy this one, its different, but another epic adventure nonetheless. Cant wait to read the next one!

Great adult fantasy series. It does have undertones of sexuality as well as themes including severe torture. If you don't mind these themes it is a good read.

This is the fifth book in the sword of Truth series. It's very involved and I would recommend reading the books one after the other just so you can keep up.

The story is getting old and tired by now. Even with the introduction of new characters it is stale, boring and predictable.

When last we saw our heroes--Richard Cypher (Lord Rahl) and Kahlan Amnell--they each had made enormous sacrifices to save one another from certain doom. To save her beloved, Khalan, Mother Confessor of the Midlands, had spoken the three chimes, summoning these chaotic beings from the world beyond and unwittingly releasing incredibly destructive power. Now the chimes are stealing souls, and malevolent forces are reshaping the world itself. To save everything from almost certain doom, Richard, Kahlan, and the wizard Zedd must hunt the elusive chimes and reharness them before it's too late.

It was a darker book of all of them ... not as good as the others. Toward the end I thought everyone was going to die. With the next book in the series being "Faith of the Fallen" I thought Richard and Kahlan's side was going to fall into defeat, especially when the vote didn't go their way. This book's title isn't as clear ... with the Soul being either Zedd or Joseph Ander ... and who's the Fire? Richard?

I agree with other reviewers that this one seemed a bit stretched out. The storyline was decent but it felt like the author was trying to make this book just as long as the others. I did get bored with the multiple Ander banquets, etc that were detailed so minutely. Once I started just skimming those parts, the book went quicker and held my interest more.
I did like the fact that this story wasn't resolved because of some "antidote" that Richard had to obtain or do to fix the problem. He tapped into his 'magic' and came up with the solution on his own - which I appreciated, rather than his reading it in a book. Although tedious, I would recommend this book as the story was interesting and I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

I love this series.

The series definitely hits a slow spot with this book. I felt a lot of frustration in this book, and the story didn't progress like I wanted it to. The 1st 4 books of this series took me on a whirlwind of excitement and adventure. The middle of this series slows down and becomes overly-descriptive and preachy. We all know about Richard's cause, we don't need to hear him preach it 12 pages at a time to everyone he comes across.

Still, I love the characters enough to keep going.

Full of rape, torture, murder, blood and guts (literally). NOT good books, but very engaging. I was unable to put them down, and have lost a lot of sleep during the two months it took me to read the entire series. I cringed, I cried, I gasped, I had nightmares. I can't imagine what kind of twisted mind thinks up this kind of stuff.
In regards to the tv series based on these books DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. THEY ARE FULL OF CRAP THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE BOOKS. I had to force myself to at least give them a chance, but was so pissed off within the first few minutes of the very first episode. I don't understand why the author had to butcher the story.
Anyway, read at your own discression. Not for kids or teenagers (or even a lot of adults :)

Book Five of the Sword of Truth series.

Honestly, this is my least favorite of the Sword of Truth books. I've read it once and tried to give it a second chance, but had to skim through the last quarter of the book. I'll keep it in my collection, but would rather read just about any of the others instead.
