The Soul Thief is an ethereal novel in these times of identity theft. Based on the idea is that someone can go even further to steal your soul. The story is about a student,Nathanial Mason, who is quite passive to begin with, passive to ideas,to stronger personalities, etc. Gradually he comes under the spell of the allurinbg but amoral Theresa and eventually of Jerome Coolberg,a cryptic and somewhat souless fellow student. The story reminded me of Donna Tartt's "Secret History". Soul Thief is highly engaging and challenging!

This one took me two starts to get into it. I did not care for the writing or the resulting story. I kept on to the end hoping the story would develop and was disappointed. I suspect that in this style of writing this would be considered a very good piece but since the style was not accommodating my preferences I did not find this book enjoyable. It was not that unlike the writing of K Platt's The Boy who could make himself disappear.
