This book presents history in such an immediate and entertaining way. I first came across it in a library 12 years ago, when it literally leapt off the shelves and hit me on the head. I opened it to the chapter on Cabeza de Vaca, and although I'd never been particularly interested in Texas history before, it was written in such an endearing way that it has inspired me to compose an oratorio based on the story! That is talented writing!
