A great book to read, I like fiction books that include pieces of history. This one about a family and history of China's revolution between late 1800's and early 1900's.

This book takes the reader from the time of the end of dynastic rule to the time of Mao. Rich with the superstitious behavior of the old ways of the inhabitants of the Middle Kingdom, the author follows one woman as the changes come upon China and her family. If you're in the mood for a well-written book with good character development, and if you enjoy knowing more about a culture that was closed to the world, then you're going to enjoy reading this book.

Dark, and fascinating. A real glimpse into Chinese history and culture.
