I picked this up because I remember reading this series on folklore in elementary school and loving it. But, alas, my kids are not that interested in folklore. This book uses the Dolch reading list of 684 words designed to help kids learn basic words. The reading level is grade three, and it would be a good read-aloud to younger kids and of interest to older ones as well.

With simple text and engaging pictures, this is the first chapter book my daughter could really sit still for. I red half the book in one sitting and she was totally focused on the stories (she's 2 1/2). I think we'll be reading this one again and again for a while.
