What people should know about getting this second hand is that the code included in the book to gain you access to the web site to take the assessment can only be used once. So you won't be able to take the test or access any of the additional content on the web site if you don't buy the book new.

Unfortunately, without an access code, the book is nearly useless. :(

I was very disappointed with this book. Apparently when you trade it and the single-use license code in the back has already been used it is useless as far as being able to take the evaluation. The majority of the book is the decoder key for the evaluation.

The company's policy is to sell you another book instead of another license. Kind of goes against the whole paperbackswap reduce, reuse, recycle thing.

I will not be listing this book in our system again because of the single-use license issue.

Very, very disappointed.

This book (and the associated online assessment) helps the reader to discern and harness his or her natural talents to the fullest extent. Beware that the assessment may be used only once per book, and additional assessments-only (not with a new copy of the book) are not available for purchase online at this time.

Bought first hand - 5 stars. Bought second hand - 2 stars.

The book is very general and isn't really go to do much for you on its own. HOWEVER, when you buy the book first hand, it is an excellent tool to find your 5 top strengths. The new book is necessary because it comes with a one-time only code to take the test on their website. If you get it second hand, that code is no longer valid.

By the time I took Strengths Finder 2.0, I had already taken a number of these tests throughout my life, including Myers-Briggs. They all provided some indicators of who I was, but never seemed to really capture who I really was. They wanted to shoehorn me into their very narrow models.

So, I was fairly skeptical before taking SF 2.0, but a good friend with a similar mindset had taken it, and recommended it highly. I resolved to keep an open mind...and I'm glad I did. The test took about 45 minutes and the results legitimately, and pleasantly, surprised me, a rather rare occurrence.

It provides what it evaluated as your top five strengths, by order of dominance. I am a Relator-Strategic-Input-Analytical-Ideation. There are over 40 traits that it uses to classify you, picking the top five based on how you answer the evaluation. It then provides a number of schema that tell you how each individual trait manifests, most frequently. Many of them will apply to you, but not necessarily all.

It also provides examples of people working in careers where these traits provide significant benefit to people for that career. Last but not least, it also provides an analysis of what traits of other people you are/aren't compatible with. My friend that recommend it worked at Merck, and he said they actually would group team members based on the results of this book.

I highly recommend SF 2.0 for anyone that is looking to learn more about themselves, especially when it comes to strengths in the workplace, especially how you work well with people of similar and differing traits.

Note - like with any reputable test, it won't 'tell' you what jobs you'll be good at. It just provides some examples of how the individual traits manifest.

This book was HORRIBLE!! It's so generic and common sense. The test was the worst though, the format was "unique" but failed miserably. An example question was, "Do you agree with statement A or do you agree with statement B, or neutral." Um, OK...well I have a logical brain so this doesn't work. I don't agree with either statement, now what? Oh, and you can't buy the book used and take the test. The authors thought of a genius marketing scheme where you have to buy it new and never from a second hand store. Shame on them. Helping people apparently comes second to making money. You also have to fill out what age you are, race, address, etc. before you take the test...future marketing information anyone?

I found this book extremely worthwhile especially for understanding different personalities and styles in the workplace. Contradictory to comments from earlier reviews, the corresponding assessment can now be purchased separately online at https://www.gallupstrengthscenter.com/Purchase/en-US/Product
It has been renamed the Clifton StrengthsFinder Assessment.

Pointless ordering this book through paoerbackswap because you need the book new in order to get the online code to do the test. Without the test, the book is useless. There it away.
