These are all British stories (although one is set in French-British Egypt and another in Mallorca) except for the Charlotte MacLeod story; I often have trouble relating to relatively modern British stories and settings. No problem here, however; I liked virtually all of these stories. They all are fairly entertaining with a fast enough pace and interesting stuff going on. Two of the stories (Caudwell and Ripley) were later collected in Maxim Jakubowski's MAMMOTH BOOK OF COMIC CRIMES, so they are better than average mildly amusing stories. I would agree with that judgment.

For a fairly unheralded, nondescript book historically, it turned out to be a lot better than I expected. Charlotte MacLeod's "A Sticky Business" and Mike Ripley's "Smeltdown" were my favorites.

It's interesting to me that there is no one credited as the editor, even though there are introductory notes to each story. Somebody chose these stories and introduced them, but got no credit for that.

It's a good book, well worth reading.
