I really enjoyed this book. I've heard wonderful things about Kostova's previous book, The Historian, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. Hopefully I can pick it up soon.

Learning about Robert from three different people helped give him depth that I think only could be accomplished from multiple perspectives.
I have very limited experience with inpatient psychiatry, but I still believe Kostova did a wonderful job exploring his mental illness and how it affected his family and friends.
One of the main characters is Robert's wife. I do feel Kostova left her story slightly unresolved, but I can easily get over it.
Overall, I definitely recommend this book!
I listened to the unabridged audio version and it was wonderful! I cannot commend the narration enough.

Excellent narration - really important in a 17 cd, unabridged tale! It gathered speed slowly and took until the 2nd disc till I was truly hooked. Lots of artistic input: if you are not into painting, you might not appreciate all that much art. For me, this was much better than reading the book. Recommended highly for style, story, and imagination.

Very entertaining! I listened to it while moving from Mississippi to Pennsylvania and enjoyed it very much.
Enjoyable story. Well written and narrated.
This author is a favorite of mine. I love the way she can pull you into the story with her attention to detail. You feel as if you witnessed these characters from the 1800's and yet your made to feel same about the present day plot line. Elizabeth Kostova has a way of keeping you in riveted while her mystery unfolds beautifully.
