For an author and teacher who has thirteen prior novels under her belt, I was vastly disappointed by Shelton's inexperienced writing and content in Sweet Masterpiece. The main character has enough on offer, or so you'd believe, as a government-sanctioned housebreaker/cleaner and a desserts chef with a home based business. The storyline feels plausible at first but quickly slides down a slippery slope of too many caricatures, not characters. You're left hanging as to the deaths and whereabouts of three people while Sweet runs errands, delivers pastries, and flirts with a local member of the police force. It's a mess. Not even cupcakes can save this one.

Well Written Cozy Mystery with a Slight Paranormal Twist
By GrizzlyWife on October 20, 2017
I received this book for free during a promotion from Amazon. A surprisingly cool book! Samantha Sweet in not a sweet young thing, she is a full grown woman about 50 years of age with hopes and dreams of opening a bakery store. Too bad her deadbeat daughter cleaned her out and she now has to supplement her income with cleaning foreclosed houses/property for the USDA. Sam doing her job when she meets the elderly owner of a foreclosed house dying and requesting Sam take custody of a mysterious box. Then things get weird and interesting. Ms. Shelton does a terrific job of developing Sam and the secondary characters as the Sam's life goes into a tale-spin with the mysteries. I recommend this book.
