This book could have been great except it wasn't. Meet 5 women whose lives are told in short, jumpy bits, who are kind of, but not altogether that connected. The book jumps years at a time in places and falls short of developing any one of the women in the story. This was a book club selection that my group, as a whole, was very disappointed in. If it hadn't been for my commitment to the club, I would have stopped reading it after 100 pages. Read The Help by Kathryn Stockett if you really want to be blown away by the lives of some amazing women!

I loved this book! Having been raised in the South, I appreciate good Southern literature, and this book is amazing. It's about an unlikely friendship among five very different women - black, white, young, old, wealthy, and poor. There are scattered pearls of wisdom throughout the book. Sometimes I finished a chapter, stopped and thought "Wow! I want to read that again!" Then I went back and savored the phrase or paragraph that had charmed me. I plan to read this one again with highlighter in hand. This book will stay on my shelf for many years. Do yourself a favor and read this one!

I enjoyed this book very much. I thought it was going to be more humorous. There are some pretty funny goings on (although sad, in a way)...after all, a nursing home is not really a comedy club. Well written...reminded me of The Help. I would recommend it.

Very nice debut novel. Conversational writing style that brings the characters alive. I will look forward to future stories from this writer.

Meet five North Carolina women who are about to change the way you think about friendships. Great book about friendships & getting older. Quick summer read.

This book is one of the best I've enjoyed in my 48-year history on this earth. I found myself constantly amazed that a male wrote this extremely insightful, penetratingly honest, sweet and tender book about a handful of women that I came to love. This book is now firmly ensconced in my all-time top-5 "great reads."
