This item has a very small book on the philosophy of tai chi and in depth explanations of the stances. There's also a set of flash cards that describe the stances.

I took tai chi lessons many ago, so going through this book is like retrieving a memory. I can't imagine using only this to learn tai chi for the first time because tai chi is a very nuanced, physical movement. I'm not saying that you can't learn from this, only that it would be very challenging. I'd recommend this book as a helpful tool in conjunction with taking lessons.
