Do you think the difference between good and evil is as simple as black and white? Well think again. Lily finds out that she can be good by being bad as an assassin for God. After Lily kills her sister's attacker in cold-blood, she is given a second chance to redeem herself and wakes up in Alice Purdue's body. Working for the light as a demon assassin, her job is to prevent the ninth gate to Hell from being opened by demons. But Lily's new life has her wondering if she's strong enough to the keep the ninth gate from opening? What happened to Alice Purdue, now that Lily is occupying her body? Will her sister be able to cope without her there to help her?

Tainted was an enjoyable read from Lily's point of view, and it moves at a brisk pace with it's eclectic cast of characters and their fun and clever dialogue. Lily is sassy, head strong with street smarts and resilient in her role as the God's assassin. I found myself easily liking Lily and her attitude towards her new life.

Everyone from her new friend Gracie to her supernatural guide Clarence, tell Lily to stay away from Deacon Camphire. Deacon is a dark mystery to Lily and she doesn't know if she can trust him but she does know she has a strong attraction to him. And he to her. While Tainted is light on the romance, there is plenty of sizzling tension between Lily and Deacon.

Tainted is the first book in the new dark urban fantasy series, The Blood Lily Chronicles by Julie Kenner. Tainted is well written, full of mystery and action, saturated with sexual tension and has turns in the plot that you won't see coming. This book is a must for urban fantasy readers who like their reads to be suspenseful, with a dark, fast moving setting and a sassy, street smart heroine.

I'm looking forward to release of Torn next month because the ending of Tainted left me with more questions then answers.

Interesting premise, but much of this book ended up being predictable in the ways of too many other urban fantasies. The main female character is stubborn, willful, filled with needless guilt, and lusting after a man every few pages. However, the cliffhanger ending left me wanting to read at least the next in the series. Let's hope it's an improvement.

I gave it 3 stars. Very interesting premise and an overall enjoyable book. But of course the main character... while reborn has many of the same characteristics of almost all UF leading ladies.... you know..angry at the world, makes stupid decisions, rushes head 1st into danger instead of thinking it through. Same as watching a horror movie and the dumb girls takes a walk in the dark in the woods...or goes into the basement when the lights go off. Hmmm... it would be nice to have a new leading female. I'll definately read the next one. Hope she becomes less predictable.

What to say...well it took me 10 days to read this book. I kept putting it down and it did not overwhelm me to pick it back up. I love Ms. Kenner's Demon Hunting Soccer Mom series and had high hopes for this one. I'm not sure what it was, but I never quite clicked with Lily/Alice. Even the cliffhanger ending did not entice me to read the next one in the series. 2 stars :-(

I expected to like this book and was not surprised. The beginning seemed fairly similar to the Demon Hunting Soccer Mom series, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But I did the author a disservice in making that parallel, it quickly lost similarity and was an excellent book in it's own right. The plot twists kept me guessing and very engrossed. I even broke my self-rule of not reading that included first chapter of the next book. I want to know what happens!

Urban Fantasy by Julie Kenner, and Book 1 of the Blood Lily Chronicles. Lily's done alot of bad things in her time, but she as always looked after her sister Rose. When Rose is raped and stalked, Lily goes to kill him. Except, she is also killed during the fight. Lily wakes up in someone else's body, and recruited to fight for the "good," and stop demons from ruling the Earth. But, like anything, no one is all good or all bad. Lily signs on, hoping to save the World, and her sister. But, at what cost to herself? The book is fair: lots of action, pretty well written, with interesting characters. Looking forward to the next one.
